Products not compromised during gas leak: Pine Hill Dairy

Pine Hill Dairy (PHD) continues to investigate Saturday’s ammonia leak at its plant.

A company statement says investigations suggest the gas leak was caused by a rupture in one of the pipes serving the PHD’s refrigeration unit.

“Once the leak was discovered, all employees were immediately evacuated, and there were no injuries reported,” Public Relations and Communications Officer Keisha Chapman said in a statement.

“Preliminary reports also indicate that the impact on the residents of the surrounding communities was minimal.”

Chapman said that as a precautionary measure, the refrigeration unit will remain inactive until investigations are concluded, and the necessary repairs are completed.

Pine Hill Dairy is also assuring the public that the quality of its products was not compromised during the gas leak.

“Finally, the management and staff of the PHD would like to express our immense gratitude to the teams from the Barbados Fire Service, the Royal Barbados Police Force, and all other emergency personnel who responded to the incident, for their rapid response and expert management of the situation,” the statement continued.
