Chairperson of the RCS Barbados Kay Williams told the media today the society decided to donate 280 books and 200 bookmarks to the two learning institutions respectively as books are the gifts that keep on giving. “Royal Commonwealth Society Barbados Branch donated half of the children’s books to the students of the Ann Hill and Wilkie Cumberbatch Schools and will be making further donations to other schools. The books include storybooks, picture books, activity, and informational books. Books were collected from members of the RCS Barbados and from members of the public,” Williams said. The newly elected Chairperson of the Royal Commonwealth Society said the donations will be used to develop classroom and school libraries in primary schools in Barbados. “We hope the donations will [also] be used to further stimulate bright young minds to investigative worlds that they offer. We also hope that they are inspired to learn a bit more about the countries of the Commonwealth and the values we share in common,” she said. The books were received by Principal of Ann Hill School Emelda Bell and Reading Teacher at Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School Terna Millar. They both thanked the Royal Commonwealth Society for the donation.
