Hurley earns short stay at Dodds

Two criminal charges and objections against bail by a prosecutor have resulted in a 21-year-old man spending five nights at HMP Dodds.

Brian O’neal Hurley of Brittons Hill, St Michael, is charged with robbing Omar Giles of $800, a $600 cellular phone and a $9,000 motorcar on April 27.

It is further alleged that he damaged a motorcar belonging to Giles between April 27 and 30 without lawful excuse.

He was not required to plea to the charges when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick today with his attorney Damien Sands.

The offences occurred in the District ‘D’ jurisdiction.

Sergeant St Clair Phillips objected to bail for the accused on the grounds that other persons were being sought in connection with the offences and allegations that he was armed with a firearm at the time.

“The prosecution fears that he will fetter the investigation if released,” the prosecutor submitted just before Sands put in an application for bail.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick ruled in favour of the prosecution and remanded Hurley to Dodds to appear in the District ‘D’ Magistrates’ Court on May 15.
