Barbados TODAY understands that following a board meeting yesterday, Alleyne was informed by UDC chairman Roger Gill that his contract would not be renewed by Government. However, Alleyneโs performance as UDC director was praised by the board chairman. Alleyneโs contract stipulated three months notice prior to any cessation but this was reportedly not met. When contacted Alleyne confirmed that his contract had not been renewed and he would not be with the UDC past this month-end. He indicated his pleasure at having served the country in his capacity as UDC director over the past nine years and wished the commission and his former colleagues all success in fulfilling UDCโs mandate in the future. Alleyne, a long-serving member of the Democratic Labour Party, is a former deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers. He is now in the final stages of completing his doctoral thesis. Last week permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Seibert Frederick was sent on leave under circumstances which he described as โdisrespectfulโ. Frederick, 66, had been a public servant for more than 40 years. He turns 67 in September.
