Teen admits to stealing wallet

A 14-year-old girl from St Lucy is currently awaiting her fate at the Government Industrial School after pleading guilty to theft.

The child admitted before Magistrate Alison Burke today to stealing a wallet and its contents – a driver’s licence, a Barbados identification card and two debit cards – belonging to Carl Bovell between March 10 and 11.

Station Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court the complainant put his wallet on the console of his motor van on March 10 after making a purchase. However, he could not locate it the following day having searched the vehicle and his house.

On March 22 the girl was taken into police custody in relation to another matter and the gentleman’s property was found in her haversack when it was searched.

Asked for a reason why it was there, she told police she took it from the vehicle which was also in St Lucy.

Magistrate Burke has ordered a Probation Department report on her before sentencing.

The child returns to court on May 18.
