Residents at Grazettes Main Road, St Michael are relieved that two unoccupied houses which burnt did not affect other structures.

Just after 10 p.m. on Sunday one wooden structure was destroyed while the other was partially damaged.

When Barbados TODAY visited the scene this morning, residents were  thankful that no life was lost. They reported that they heard a loud explosion and when they looked outside saw the high flames.

“We heard the noise and saw the fire and called the Fire Service. But nobody was living there. The man who used to live there died last year around July or so, and the house was empty every since.

“But we are thankful that while at first we thought it would spread, no other houses get caught. A few windows cracked from the heat but other than that nothing else to cry about because those can always be replaced. Nobody died or was injured,” the woman said.

Another resident said she believed the fire was started under suspicious circumstances but noted that she awaited word from authorities after investigations have been concluded.

The residents said they believed that the structures were not insured.
