Mother wants to mend any broken fences with youngest child

The mother of missing 19-year-old Alexander Sherwin Joseph White is praying that her son will return home soon.

Rosetta White, who rushed to the door of her Clover Crescent, St Thomas home when a Barbados TODAY team knocked hoping for positive news of his return, said the last time she saw Alexander was on Friday, May 15 with a packed haversack.

She said she has been enduring sleepless nights because while Alexander has left home for a maximum of two days in the past, he has always returned. Today marks ten days since his disappearance.

White said what is even more bothersome is the fact that Alexander has not read any of the messages she sent him on WhatsApp, and his friends have told her they have seen no signs of his presence on social media.

“When he left the Friday and I messaged him the Sunday at 10:43 I see one tick gone through. I do it again the Monday morning and one tick went through, so I get worried. And then you call the number and it ain’t even ringing, it just drops.

“What make me freak out the most is Tuesday morning when we wake up police was at the door and they had a search warrant or whatever. From then I couldn’t go back to sleep or concentrate because I worrying what happen to this child,” she said.

According to a police report, Alexander is five feet, nine inches tall, has a light brown complexion and brown eyes. He has a flat nose, both ears are pierced, thick lips, and thick eyebrows, large hands and long fingers with a small tattoo on one of his arms. When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a pair of Nike slippers and carrying a Herschel backpack.

White described Alexander as a quiet, secretive individual. She said whenever he is at home he spends most of his time lying in bed with his phone in his hand.

“Especially when he doesn’t have any money he is always home. I don’t really see anybody come here. But I know he used to talk to a girl online and it is strange now you don’t see him online. I know there is a place that he say he used to hang out in Black Rock and I don’t even know where it is.

“If it was a girl you would say she gone by a boyfriend, but it is a boy. Boys are so much weaker and influenced by the wrong thing. I fast and pray the other day that he would just be covered with the blood. It is not easy you know, to just feel as a mother that you failed the child.”

In a tearful voice, the 56-year-old said she wants her son to know that she loves him and asked him to give her another chance to mend whatever may have gone wrong in their relationship.

“Maybe we failed him but I want him to just come home and let me try again. Please come home. He had very troubling school days. He didn’t really like school; he would just be in Eagle Hall in the mornings and stuff until he get kicked out of school and his father send him to a private school in Bank Hall.

“He was always quiet. He don’t do nothing himself but he is very weak. He had a very troubled childhood and I think it all started when the separation started. Some children don’t really handle things that well and if you don’t know to give the child counselling.

“I wouldn’t say that he had anyone to talk to because he is always quiet and by himself. So I don’t know if he was happy or not. He is my last child, he is the baby,” his mother added.
