This was the view shared by Senior Business Development Officer at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), and producer of the Crop Over Sweet Limes, Andre Hoyte, as he gave a brief overview on how the first night of limes went for patrons and the organisation on Saturday at Thelmaโs Place in St Philip. Hoyte said that though this was the first lime of its kind for the NCF since the relaxing of a number of COVID 19 protocols, the event was met with a great response. โGenerally last night was a success for us โ as you know the emphasis behind the Sweet Limes was really to bring the festivals into the communities like what we use to do with the cavalcades. So we chose in conjunction with the sponsors, locations in many districts across the country to bring out a lot of the people in those communities. โLast night we saw quite a large number of people, the sponsors were quite happy, we did a lot of promotions, and generally we were able to also share the lime across the internet with our live sessions,โ he said. Patrons who attended the show, were serenaded throughout the night by several performances from some of the islandโs more popular deejays, and some live performances from Coopa Dan, Reckon Drums, and the duo of Leadpipe and Saddis. Hoyte also added that this year the limes will feature a hybrid online component to engage more international fans of the festival who may still be making last minute plans to visit the island for the cultural season. So they will still be able to tap in, and that may also help persons make their final decisions on when they are going to fly to Barbados because obviously they are seeing the hype and the festivalโs atmosphere kicking off.โ The next Crop Over Sweet Lime will be held at J-Scape Bar in Dash Gap, Bank Hall on Friday, June 17.
