Several calls were made from a cellular phone registered to the father of murder accused Hakeem Roberto Stuart minutes after Damian Trotman was shot dead in Sheraton Mall almost four years ago.
This was revealed by Station Sergeant Kirk Alleyne who said the information was gathered after phone records were recovered from service providers Digicel Barbados and Flow Barbados.
Alleyne was giving evidence as Stuart’s murder trial continued in the No. 3 Supreme Court before Justice Carlisle Greaves.
Stuart, 24, of Shelbourne Gap, St Lawrence, Christ Church, is accused of murdering Trotman on March 21, 2019.
Alleyne said he collected data from the phones of Selwyn Stuart, Rico John, Keiton Browne, Aziza Clarke and Anthony ‘Russian’ Callender on June 26, 2019.
He pointed out that three telephone numbers were identified as belonging to Selwyn Stuart, the accused man’s father.
Additionally, Alleyne said cellular sites located in Brittons Hill and Sagicor Wildey, St Michael, as well as from Sheraton, Oistins and Southern Surf located in Gibbons Boggs, Christ Church, were also accessed. He explained that cellular sites utilise antennas which allow wireless communication for mobile phones and radios.
However, Alleyne pointed out that the phone records did not register calls that were done through the Internet, such as via WhatsApp or Facebook calls.
He said in the space of 12 minutes – between 1:46 p.m. and 1:59 p.m. – six outgoing calls were made to four different numbers from one of the cellphones registered to Selwyn Stuart in the area of Sheraton Mall.
Alleyne said Callender received three of those calls.
A call to Clarke was also recorded.
Alleyne said the analysis showed that 55 communications were verified from Selwyn Stuart’s cellphone number on March 21, 2019, according to the records from Digicel.
He said that based on the IMEI number that was traced to the phone, it was identified as a Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro dual sim cellphone.
Director of Public Prosecutions Donna Babb-Agard and State Counsel Romario Straker are appearing on behalf of the State, while King’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim along with Kamisha Benjamin and Sian Lange are representing the accused.
