According to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, the open afternoon on Wednesday, May 29, and a subsequent town hall meeting, will give Barbadians the opportunity to give their views, ask questions, and receive answers to their queries. “Come and see how Kensington looks…. Come and see how it has been refreshed…. Come and see how we have made a difference to the quality of infrastructure. But equally, let us have a conversation on the things that are of concern to us, with respect to the hosting of this event and … the hosting of other events, and how we can continue to create opportunities,” she said. The Prime Minister reminded the public that apart from the buzz and the expected economic benefits, the tournament will also create lasting memories and a sense of pride for adults and children attending matches at the redeveloped Kensington Oval. “We want Barbadians to feel proud…. We are bringing the world to our country, and equally, we know that the world accepts that they’re coming to a country that has credibility in this area, for which we have invited them…. “This is not a government event alone…. This is not for the private sector alone. This is for all Bajans to play their part for the next month, and to look back on it and to be able to say, ‘well done’”. We have literally given people a good time…. That is what we want. It is not only about the money; it’s about the feeling and the experience,” Mottley underlined.
