(GP) Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 1.2K Sagicor Life Inc. has strengthened its commitment to youth and education through the sponsorship of two scholarships to students at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Shanin Murray and Surana Harry are the latest recipients of the scholarships valued at $5 000 each. Executive Vice President and General Manager for Sagicor Life Inc (Barbados) Paul Inniss said the financial and insurance solutions provider understands that higher education does come at an increased cost and is happy to support the scholarships for the third consecutive year. During a meet-and-greet at Sagicor’s Collymore Rock office, Inniss told the recipients he is cognisant of the reality that many times students have the academic ability but some may lack the financial resources to further their studies. “Sagicor is happy to assist in this regard and make life a lot easier for these two young ladies and, by extension, their parents. We want both of you to understand that there are no shortcuts to life, and you must work hard and try always to be honest,” he said. Murray, who is in her first year pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, said she was very thankful for the scholarship. It will help me with my book fees and tuition, so the stress has been taken off us for sure,” she said. Meanwhile, Harry, who is in her second year pursuing a bachelor’s in accounting and finance, said the scholarship has also allowed her to remain focused on her studies as she continues to serve on multiple executives at the campus. “The financial weight has been taken off my shoulders and it’s a way for me to put more focus on ways that I can give back and pay what I receive forward. I am eternally grateful to Sagicor for this assistance,” she said. (PR/BT) Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
