Alleyne begs for jail time, changes mind after sentence imposed

Seconds after begging to return to prison because life was “too hard” on the outside, Akeel Shaquille O’neal Alleyne got his wish. But it didn’t take long for him to change his mind after hearing he would have to spend three months behind bars.

The 28-year-old, whose address was listed as Rock Hall, St Andrew, appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to damaging a door belonging to the State without lawful excuse.

Court prosecutor Sergeant Ralph Rollock had outlined that on May 9, Alleyne was at the Winston Scott Polyclinic awaiting medication when he argued with security guards and was told to leave the facility. In frustration, he kicked the polyclinic’s glass door, causing it to break.

Alleyne admitted that he did kick the door, but insisted that when he left the polyclinic, there was no damage to it.

“I am not that strong to break that door. I am a sick person,” he told Magistrate Alison Burke.

The magistrate was placing him on a bond to keep the peace for six months, but Alleyne interrupted her, insisting that she send him to Dodds Prison instead.

“I want to go prison. Prison will feed me and clothe me. I does have to be working too hard and people only want to give me $20 for cleaning up around them place. I can’t tek dat. I gotta eat, so lemme go prison,” he declared.

Alleyne told the court that he was homeless after serving time previously for damaging several of his relatives’ belongings.

After the magistrate sentenced him to three months behind bars, Alleyne blurted, “No, I gine tek de bond. Dat too long.”

However, he was then removed from the court and taken to Dodds Prison to serve the sentence.
