The Prime Minister’s Cup football tournament concluded its first full week with 12 teams taking the field over the weekend, with a remarkable tally of 35 goals being scored in just six games, albeit with 12 of those coming in a single fixture.

Brittons Hill, Ellerton, Weymouth Wales, Technique, University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds, and Kickstart Rush all dominated the weekend round of matches.

Ellerton 2-1 Greens

In the most recent matchups for Group E played on Sunday in Ellerton, St George, the host Ellerton used home field advantage for a 2-1 win against Greens United.

An own goal from Rico Belgrave in the 42nd minute and Captain Shakille Belle’s penalty in the 90+5 minute did it for Ellerton.

Greens United was fortunate with a goal from Xavier Webster nailed in the 70th minute but their defence could not prevent Ellerton from earning those three crucial points for winning.

Brittons Hill 11-1 Maxwell

In the second game at Ellerton, Brittons Hill’s forward Rommel Bynoe stole the spotlight scoring five goals in his team’s commanding 11-1 victory over Maxwell Club in Group E.

Based in Christ Church, Maxwell Club were at the mercy of a confident looking Bynoe, the 29-year-old attacker providing goals for the Brittons Hill team in the 10th, 25th, 39th, 77th, and 85th minutes.

Bynoe now leads the tournament’s goal-scoring charts and earned the Player of the Match award for his efforts.

Midfielder Ray Snagg scored for Brittons Hill in the eighth minute, displaying his dribbling skills to evade two defenders before calmly finishing past Maxwell’s goalkeeper, Jason White.

Snagg added a second goal in the 19th minute, contributing to Brittons Hill’s 6-0 lead at halftime. Further goals came from Tavian Eastmond, Paul Alexander, and Noel Gordin in the 44th, 47th and 73rd minutes each. Maxwell’s lone goal was scored by Romario Wharton via a penalty in the 84th minute.

Weymouth Wales 3-1 Checker Hall

Over at Orange Hill in St James, on Saturday,  Premier League giants Weymouth Wales won 3-1 against Checker Hall in Group D. Checker Hall took a surprise lead in the 11th minute with a goal from Keron Worrell.

Wales on the counter managed to equalise in the 38th minute when national midfielder Nadre Butcher calmly converted a penalty following a foul on Elijah Downey.

Named Player of the Match, Downey put Wales ahead in the 54th minute with a simple tap-in. Striker Kemar Headley rounded off the scoring in the 66th minute to ensure Wales took all three points.

Kickstart 5-1 Pinelands

On Friday, Kickstart staged a 5-1 win over Pinelands in Group C. Kickstart secured a 4-0 lead by halftime, thanks to goals from Kamari Johnson (13th), Reymar Walters (28th), Nicholas Best (31st), and Azarel Croney (45+1). Pinelands converted a penalty through Amego Jordan in the 70th. Kickstart added a fifth goal through Tekyle Alleyne-Callender’s stunning free-kick (67th).

UWI Blackbirds 3-1 BSA

In the final match, UWI Blackbirds won 3-1 against Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA). UWI led from the front with Jalon Oughterson’s striking goal in the 18th minute.

Although BSA equalised in the 71st minute through Captain Khimani Cox, UWI responded immediately with goals from Romario Drakes in the 72nd and Kyle Forde-Baldes 90th to seal the show.
