Small fire causes brief work stoppage at NIS

Operations at the National Insurance and Social Security Service (NISSS) have resumed after a small fire caused a brief disruption.

Station Officer of the Bridgetown Fire Station, Roger Bourne told “Barbados TODAY” they received a call at 11:52 a.m. about a fire on the third floor of the NISSS building at Culloden Road, St Michael.

“On arrival, we were told that there was some slight smoke emerging from one of the rooms on the third floor. On investigation, we realised that was the server room and smoke was coming from the ceiling. Apparently, they were doing some replacement of the air conditioning unit in that area,” he said.

Bourne added that further investigations were carried out to ascertain the nature of the problem and a short time thereafter, the all clear was given and staff were allowed to return to work. (LG)
