A fire in a microlab at Banks Breweries has disrupted operations at the Newton, Christ Church facility.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Henderson Patrick said a report on the incident came through around 7:39 a.m. but the fire was quickly brought under control.

“Once we made initial entry we recognised that we had an incident going on the first floor in the microlab, and the officers were able in a short space of time to contain the fire within the area of origin,” he said.

“The fire has been extinguished but investigations are ongoing as to what may have caused the incident so that we can begin to give an all-clear and get the operations here going again because at present, everything is on pause until that investigation is completed.”

Three senior officers and 12 other fire officers from the Bridgetown, Worthing and St John fire stations responded to the blaze.
