Work is underway at St Stephen’s Primary to rid a section of the school of rodents, the Ministry of Education has disclosed.
In a statement, the ministry said rodents were discovered in the prefabricated building on the school plant and personnel from the Education Technical Management Unit (EMTU) Vector Control visited the school and baited several areas around the school plant.
Additionally, contractor E&E Construction is addressing the spaces above and below some doorways and will replace three manhole covers.
Meanwhile, Asha Cleaners continues industrial cleaning on the Infants’ block and the staff room.
The Vector Control Unit has proposed measures to keep rodents away, the ministry said. These include keeping the grounds free from fallen fruit from trees, proper refuse management, and cutting back bush from the perimeter of the grounds.
Today’s classes were not interrupted by the work and the ministry said any outstanding work or cleaning will continue on Tuesday after school hours to avoid potential disruption.
