Chef charged with harbouring wanted man

A 50-year-old chef was ordered to surrender his travel documents to the court after being charged with harbouring wanted man Rackeem Alleyne.

Trevor Francois of Nelson Street, St Michael appeared in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged that, knowing or believing that Alleyne had committed an arrestable offence, he without lawful authority or reasonable excuse provided a place of abode for the murder suspect with intent to impede his apprehension or prosecution on March 31.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

Saying that the accused was not known to the courts, Prosecutor Station Sergeant Glenda Carter Nicholls offered no objections to bail, but asked that conditions be set.

Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes released Francois on $10 000 bail but ordered him to turn in his passport and report to the Central Police Station every Tuesday and Saturday by 3 p.m.

Francois, who is represented by attorney Simon Clarke, will reappear in the Bridgetown court on August 15.
