The Government of Barbados has requested the support of the Regional Security System (RSS) to supplement local law enforcement agencies during the nation’s historic celebrations this weekend.

On Sunday, the country will mark three significant milestones: the 59th anniversary of Independence, its 4th anniversary as a parliamentary republic, and the installation of the second president of the Republic of Barbados.

The momentous occasion is expected to attract several Heads of State/Government and other dignitaries from across the Caribbean region and internationally. Given the significance of these celebrations and the expected arrival of distinguished guests, the government has proactively engaged the RSS to ensure comprehensive security coverage throughout the weekend’s events.

Under the RSS treaty, provision is made for RSS member states to request support from other member states under specified terms and conditions. In this instance, the deployment in Barbados will comprise police officers and military personnel from Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Guyana and St Kitts and Nevis.

The RSS deployment will work under the direction of local law enforcement entities to provide adequate security arrangements, ensuring that all ceremonial and celebratory activities proceed smoothly and safely.

This marks a historic weekend for Barbados as the nation continues to build upon its republican journey while honouring its rich heritage of independence. (PR)
