SSA urges Bridgetown businesses to keep the City clean this Christmas

The Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) is calling on store owners, vendors and other businesses operating in and around Bridgetown to play their part in maintaining cleanliness during the busy Christmas season.

In a recently released statement, Public Relations Officer Carl Padmore said businesses are being urged to properly manage waste, including ensuring that cardboard boxes are collapsed and securely tied before being placed out for collection. He also reminded restaurant operators that cooking oil and grease must not be left on pavements, stressing that it is their responsibility to engage licensed service providers to dispose of such waste.

Padmore further warned that human or animal feces must not be placed in garbage bags or bins and that vehicles should not obstruct the free movement of SSA collection trucks.

“While we recognise that commercial activity increases during Christmas, collective responsibility is essential. You do your part, vendors and store owners, and we will do ours,” he said.

The SSA also advised residents that there will be no household waste collection on December 25 or January 1, 2026, as both are public holidays.

Additionally, Barbadians are being reminded not to mix bulky waste with regular household garbage. Persons needing bulky waste removed are asked to contact the SSA’s Commercial Department at 535-5052 or 535-5053, or the hotline at 262-5326 or 262-5327. The SSA’s PBX number is 535-5000.
