Brittons Hill man admits all cannabis charges

After initially admitting to one of three cannabis related charges, a Reece Road, Britttons Hill man changed his mind and confessed to all in a magistrates court.

When the charges were first read by Magistrate Manila Renee, Winston St Alban Alleyne, 51, admitted to being in possession of cannabis but pleaded not guilty that he had intent to supply and had a traffickable quantity of the controlled drug.

Sergeant Kenmore Phillips made no objection to bail, but there was no surety available at the time. When Alleyne’s surety arrived at the court, the accused, however, asked for the charges to be read again.

He then pleaded guilty to all three offences which took place on Thursday evening.

The court heard that police were on patrol along Fairchild Street in the area of ‘Vincy Town’ when they observed Alleyne rolling a cigarette. There was a strong scent of marijuana coming from the area and they approached him, told him of their suspicions and he consented to a search. During their search of his haversack, a transparent bag containing the drug was discovered.

The drugs weighed 37.19 grammes and have an estimated street value of $190.

Noting that his last conviction was in 2010 for a similar offence, Magistrate Renee convicted, reprimanded and discharged him for the possession charge, and reprimanded and discharged him regarding those of trafficking and intent to supply.

“It was not a large amount, you did not waste the court’s time and your antecedents are very old. So you can go,” she said. (JB)
