Antigua and Barbuda Falcons win CPL title

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are the champions of the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), after defeating Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets during a pulsating final at Kensington Oval on Sunday.

Chasing 171 to win the battle of the league’s two newest franchises at the virtually sold-out venue, the Falcons clinched the win with 173 for two in 17 overs.

Amir Jangoo top-scored with 57 not out from 34 balls. The innings  featured four fours and a six, while Hasan Nawaz added an unbeaten 47 from 35 balls.

When their reply began, the Falcons made a brisk start to the innings, powering to 76 for one at the end of the powerplay.

Rahkeem Cornwall was dismissed off the last ball of the first over bowled by Saim Ayub, but by then he had hammered 20 from six balls.

His opening partner Evin Lewis was next to be dismissed for 38 in the eighth over, with the Falcons at that point still in a strong position at 84 for two.

Earlier, the Kingsmen posted a challenging 170 for nine after being sent into bat, with opener Maaz Sadaqat anchoring the innings with a superb 114 off 58 balls.

Sadaqat struck eight fours and nine sixes during his innings, while Saim Ayub was the only other Kingsmen batter to reach double figures, scoring 29 off 22 balls at number four.

For the Falcons, Player-of-the-Match Sufyan Moqim was the pick of the bowlers with figures of four for 14, while Alzarri Joseph claimed two for 27.
