Local NewsNews BL&P crews continue repairs to St Thomas sub-station by Sandy Deane 01/06/2020 written by Sandy Deane 01/06/2020 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 143 Crews from the Barbados Light & Power Company are continuing repairs to a fault at the St Thomas sub-station, that triggered a power outage in the north of the island last night, the company said. The outage started around 10:50 p.m., and power was restored around 1:30 this morning. According to BL&P Director of Operations Johann Greaves, while the fault was being investigated, power supply was restored. “Once the fault occurs, the system isolates that fault and electricity is restored to customers using alternative paths. This is critical for us since it limits the impact and reduces the duration of the outage.” He added that the fact that the system is designed in this way will be beneficial during the current 2020 Hurricane season because it allows Light & Power to manage power supply and maintain reliability for customers who are depending on us. BL& P has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanks customers for their patience.
