Two goals from Brent Lashley helped Kickstart Rush to an opening day victory in the 2024 Rush Fest international football tournament.

On Monday, the Caribbean  representatives defeated Rush Alaska 3-1 at the Trailwinds Sports Complex in Denver, Colorado.

Lashley, recently broke the national 400m record for the Under-13 division at the Athletic Association of Barbados National Championships, and he displayed his speed and athletic versatility with a goal in each half of the match.

Kickstart Rush’s other goal came in the first minute in the second half when Bayley’s Primary School student Aamir Layne dribbled by a host of Rush Alaska defenders and fired a low shot into the bottom left corner.

On Tuesday morning, Kickstart Rush continued their winning ways, with a 6-1 demolition of Wisconsin/Virginia Rush. Layne was twice on target this time, whilst Lashley netted once. Atticus Corbin and Blake Corbin (no relation) scored, as did Jonathan Andrews.

At 1:00 p.m., Kickstart Rush made it three in a row, trouncing North Denver/Washington 5-0, thanks to a haul from Milan Maynard, and Blake Corbin supplying the fifth.

The Kickstart boys take a rest on Wednesday, resuming on Thursday.

Rush Fest is an annual event that brings together U12 boys’ and girls’ teams and players from Rush clubs across the United States of America and around the world. Rush Fest marks the transition from 9v9 to full-sided 11v11 games. The inaugural Rush Fest took place in 2008 with 12 teams, today over 48 teams are in attendance each year.

The week-long festival of soccer joins competitive games, training sessions, classroom sessions, and a host of social events in one of the most unique soccer events anywhere in the country.  Teams compete against one another in morning games that are bracketed for similar abilities and afternoon training, including keeper-specific training, and classroom sessions run by top coaches from within the Rush family working with the players and team coaches.
