Lester Vaughan School pupils, along with their parents and teachers, gathered on Thursday to commemorate their educational journey at the school’s graduation ceremony. The event emphasised an inspiring theme, encouraging graduates to aim not just for good, but for greatness in their future endeavours.
During her address, the principal, Suzette Holder, commended the graduates for their perseverance in the face of numerous challenges throughout their school life. She urged them to use this experience as a foundation for confidence in pursuing excellence in their chosen fields.
“Throughout your time at Lester Vaughan, you have embraced challenges, turned obstacles into opportunities, and shown that you are not satisfied with merely being good. You strive for greatness,” Holder remarked. She emphasised that the path to greatness often requires making difficult choices and venturing into the unknown, rather than settling for what is easy or familiar.
The principal reminded the students that greatness was not a destination, but a continuous journey. She encouraged them to strive for constant improvement, to make a difference, and to leave a positive impact on the world around them.
“As you move forward into the next chapter of your life, remember this theme. It is a call to action, a reminder that the pursuit of greatness often requires bold decisions and the courage to step out of comfort zones,” she stressed.
Former student and HR specialist Dylan Downes also addressed the graduates, urging them not to hold themselves back from pursuing their dreams. He stressed the importance of embracing aspirations through hard work and determination.
“Dream big, but also be prepared to work hard. There is no substitute for hard work and dedication,” Downes advised. He shared his own experiences at Lester Vaughan, acknowledging that while it was not always smooth sailing, the school had adequately prepared him for his current position.
Downes reminded the students that they now possessed the tools, knowledge, and support needed to succeed. He emphasised that their education, skills, and the encouragement from those who believe in them form a strong foundation, upon which they must now build.
The graduation ceremony, with its inspiring messages and celebration of achievement, marked a significant milestone for the Lester Vaughan students as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives.
