City resident David Taylor is looking for a place to rest his head tonight after his house was destroyed in a blaze.

The 48-year-old father of four was hanging out with neighbours, a short distance away from his Ellis Road, St Michael residence, when he looked up and saw his home of 22 years in flames.

He lost everything.

“I couldn’t even get in good. When I got [inside] the fire was all on me. I couldn’t get through the door,” an overwhelmed Taylor told Barbados TODAY while showing small burns on his hands.

“I ain’t even try to move nothing. I couldn’t even try,” he added.

The neighbouring house belonging to Kirby Prentice – who was at home watching television at the time – was also damaged.

“It is a sad thing that a man lost his house. I give God thanks that everybody came out and helped me to try and save some things. All I can do is give thanks for my life and nobody ain’t lost their life next door,” said Prentice who revealed that he lost everything in a fire at the age of 16.

“When I see the man next door lose everything I know how he feels and what he is going through. I hope people come and give him assistance too because he really needs it. He has three children that live in there with him . . . school clothes and everything is gone,” he explained.

Prentice said efforts by the entire community helped ease the fire until fire officials responded to the scene.
