Mount Gay has marked its 316th anniversary as the world’s oldest operating rum distillery by showing appreciation to its valuable staff members, clients and customers.
The company celebrated in fine style with a series of events including visits to clients and customers at bars and rum shops, a staff appreciation event and a massive product sale for the public.
Speaking at the staff appreciation, Managing Director Raphael Grison said that 316 years was a great accomplishment and explained that the company wanted to say a huge ‘thank-you’ to all who made it possible to mark the significant milestone.
“The rum shop crawl gave us the opportunity to meet with our customers one-on-one to thank them for pushing our brand and to also get a better insight into what is happening in the trade,” he said.
“The sale at our distribution centre was our way to say thanks and give-back to our loyal customers and clients, by providing the opportunity for them to purchase their favourite products at a reduced price.”
Stressing that the celebrations could not be complete without acknowledging Mount Gay’s dedicated staff members for their contribution throughout the years, Grisoni told them, “I want to sincerely thank each of you for your input and commitment. It is truly appreciated. Three hundred and sixteen years are significant and cause for celebration. Each of you has played a very important role in getting us to this milestone and we should all be very proud.”
He added, “There is a pioneer mindset at Mount Gay and we intend to keep that going. Yes, we are the oldest but we do not intend to rest on our laurels. We intend to continue to be innovative, engage our customers and keep our brand visible as we look forward to celebrating many more years.” (PR)

Happy anniversary mount gay
The best.
There are quite a few politicians who would have loved to be at that celebration, to get a good gulp. They would have left the premises owing nothing.
Dear Mount Gay, I missed the celebration there, But i celebrate as much as I can and as often as I can everyday that I can over here in Texas. Thanks for your product.

“Managing Director Raphael Grison said that 316 years was a great accomplishment…”
Most of the 316 years of success of this company is built off the brutal and murderous slave labour of our African ancestors, and all most people got to say is congratulations and how the rum taste good! People wake up from your amnesia and drunken behaviour.
316 years of giving people all kinds of health problems.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
I hope that cake got some of that good stuff n it
Congratulations keep making that good stuff
Simply the best
Yes its the best rum , yes its the oldest , but who owns, this great Barbados product………
Put back on AY ward signature on the bottles
@Francis Wisdom – I am not bothered and neither should u luv. j
@JRSmith – this majority like it so. The owners should have made a donation to the financially strapped QEH.
@Jennifer – Marcus Garvey have a message for
shameless persons like you: “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds!”
@Francis – Listen lady….. The white race was given an AMOUNT OF TIME to f&^% up the black race and rule the earth. There is nothing u or I can do. That time is soon up. U should be more concerned with what is to come and educate yourself. Who taught our people to hate ourselves, about nappy hair, big nose, black skin, disenfranchisement, and overall generalize systemic lock down??? And none to rescue but him. From Marcus to Malcom to Michael King was caught in a similar trap, hence we the same spot…… In case u did not realize, I am on the same page as you so just chill your ass.
And that trap in case u did not know Francis is INTEGRATION aka DEPENDENCY aka tin pot syndrome or bottom of the economic barrel. Notice how de governments still with the same BS till this day.
The first distillation of rum in the Caribbean took place on the sugarcane plantations there in the 17th century. Plantation $laves discovered that molasses, a by product of the sugar refining process, could be fermented into alcohol. … Tradition suggests this type of rum first originated on the island of Barbados.

And all u recipients of the Trans Atlantic Slave trade who congratulating well….. – shame on you and your ignorance in 2019.
@,Jennifer , hail, hail, in true form as usual….
We are still lock down and lock in, by our collective beliefs .so what should be done and when do we get a move on…………
@Jennifer, a few corrections. No lady, I’m a male (Frances is used commonly for girls, while Francis is used for boys). Your response to my 1st comment, “I am not bothered and neither should u luv.” I interpreted this as a antagonistic response for someone who claims to be on the “same page” considering I don’t know you and you made no prior comment! So if anyone ass needs chilling I suggest you look at your own. Remember, “humble calf suck de most milk”. One love.
For the record, we must ALL emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, as none of us can be 100% well. Simply because we live in a globally polluted world of inhumane behaviour. What really troubles me (as somebody striving to be a mentally stable African) is the acceptance of psychotic behaviour as normal. What most of these comments suggest is a celebration of a legacy primary built on the suffering of my/our African ancestors. Anybody who is not deeply concerned is in desperate need of emancipation therapy.
@Francis – Sorry bro, thought about the name also being masculine after posting. As a mentally liberated so called black woman I really despise our men and women disrespecting each other – we have been through too much. So no dishonor intended.
My brother-I am with u all the way. But everything is for a time.
