The Ministry of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce has advised that a Covid-19 Critical Stock List was tabled by the Ministry last week and agreed upon by the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) at a meeting at the Warrens Office Complex.
The meeting with major retailers and distributors across the island also saw members from the group unanimously agreeing to pledge support for a clear declaration that price gouging would not be practised or tolerated.
Acting Director of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Bertram Johnson noted that Government would work with the local business community to maintain a pricing regime that allows for a stable structure.
Members of the group agreed in principle to hold prices of the Covid-19 Critical Stock List at pre Covid-19 levels as Government seeks to give support to offset any increases from overseas suppliers due to increases in global demand for these products.
The list of items is as outlined below:
FOOD: Luncheon Meat, Corned Beef, Vienna Sausages, Sardines, Tuna, Mackerel, Salt Fish, Red Herring, Pasta, Rice, Peas, Corn Meal, Flour, Potatoes, Canned Soups, Tin Corn, Sugar, Biscuit, Bread, Teas, Bottle Water, Orange Juice, Lemons, Oranges, Jam and Cheddar Cheese.
ANTIBACTERIAL & DISINFECTANTS: Hand Sanitizer, Bleach, Vinegar, Antibacterial Soap, Antibacterial Sprays, Antibacterial Wipes, Disinfectants and Bar Soap.
SANITARY & HEALTH: Rubbing Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Vitamin C, Gloves, Tissues, Toilet Paper, Garbage Bags, Sanitary Napkins, Diapers (Adults), Diapers (Baby) Baby Wipes, Baby Formula, Tooth Paste and Mask N95.
