The Waterfront Café is no longer in operation.

The 35 year old restaurant served its final customers on Saturday, March 21, who were treated to a special “final” performance by Mike Krimholtz Jazz Trio.

No reason was given by management for the closure.

A statement from management said: “After 35 wonderful years of entertaining and feeding you, Waterfront Café will be closing its doors on March 21, 2020. The management and staff wish to extend sincere gratitude for your patronage over these past few decades.”

Proprietors went on to wish everyone a safe journey through this COVID-19 crisis.

The news comes as a shock to some patrons who openly expressed their regret and sadness about the closure. Tourists and locals alike praised the restaurant for three decades of quality food and fine dining.

Here are some of the more than 100 comments on the Waterfront Café facebook page:

• “I have been visiting since 1994 staying mostly at Woodville, Hastings . . . I was due to take my 42nd visit next Friday, bringing 12 people for my 60th.

The Waterfront has been a favourite restaurant for me over all those years of staying. I wish you and your family well and look forward to getting back to my beautiful 2nd home, as soon as I possibly, safely can. Thank you for many years of happiness.” (IMC)
