Fans of the annual Barbados Reggae Festival may have been going through withdrawal with the cancellation of the much-anticipated festival which would have climaxed this weekend.

However, they got the opportunity to enjoy some measure of satisfaction with the Reggae in Ya House Quarantine Party. The show, which was hosted by local reggae singer Peach Bless on Instagram, was a flashback to the Bajan Nights which were once featured as part of their series of events.

In the first edition, the audience got hyped with a sweet selection of deejay music before the live acts commenced. High class Barbadian entertainment was on show and the host opened with positive vibes impressing with some of her own original material. Her session included What A Feeling, Ungrateful Heart and her collaboration with Buggy Nhakente, Roots.

In the line-up was songstress Rhesa Garnes. She opened with an acappella version of Beres Hammond’s Giving Thanks. She followed that up with her serene ode Woman and then Rastaman. Her final track was the Simon Pipe-produced No More.

Jamaica-based VBongo too delivered strong vocals. She entertained with Great Things, Walk in the Park and closed with Conversation and Weed.

Also representing for the ladies was Tabitha, who made an impassioned plea for peace with her track War which featured the lyrics, “Why are you bitter, try and do better!” It was appropriately followed by Surrender. Her set included Original and the yet to be released Shine.

On the cast was Dougie Dan with his tribute Parents and Go Fi Mine.

Unfortunately, technical difficulties plagued David Kirton’s performance, but viewers still enjoyed snippets of Mary Jane and the popular Green Camouflage.

In an interview, Peach Bless told Bajan Vibes the thinking behind staging the event.

“I was really looking forward to performing this year on the Hill, so I decided to have a live session for my fans. At this time, we need to do everything to bring each other together as we fight this pandemic. The experience was awesome, especially when I received some positive feedback and comments.”

According to Peach, the Sunday night production was not only about sweet reggae vibes.

“A few well known businesses reached out to us. Some dedicated small business owners came on board and gave of their time and efforts to assist with this venture as we received a few donations and were able to purchase some items and put a smile on the faces of five families.”

Peach Bless and the Breaking Point Entertainment team are appreciative of all the assistance received and are looking forward to the second episode this coming Sunday. (STT)
