On Sunday, Barbados TODAY and its partners delivered some hampers filled with goodies to several families who had been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team, along with the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) helped to identify vulnerable families from the parishes of St Michael, St Andrew, St Peter, St Lucy and St Philip.

Representatives from Pharmaceuticals Plus, Forde’s Freighting and Crumbz Bakery, embarked on a drive to distribute the food hampers.

The hampers consisted mostly of food and household items, and healthy snacks and juices were handed out to the families with children.

One of the organizers of the food drive,  Account executive Rhea Ramsay explained it was not a simple process.

“Organizing and executing this initiative was not an easy undertaking. However, it was one challenge that the team was excited to take up. As a media company we recognized that during these difficult times it is our responsibility to be our brother’s keeper. Once we got over the initial daunting task of producing the perfect hamper, we hit the ground running in contacting our partners who graciously exceeded our requests.”

She said the biggest reward was the smiles on the faces of the individuals who received the hampers.

Sheena Ramsay, one of the pharmacists at Pharmaceuticals Plus, was on the road with the team distributing the hampers. She stated that the company was never a part of such a big initiative but has always contributed to various causes.

“At the Pharmacy, we don’t only look to offer pharmaceutical services but try to contribute to other causes and initiatives and we saw Barbados TODAY’s initiative as a chance to further assist the communities that were affected by COVID-19. I also would encourage anyone who has the resources, skills or anyone who just wants to help to contribute in any way possible to such initiatives. It is hard work and can be challenging but after seeing the joy, the appreciation and the heartfelt gratitude on peoples’ faces, all of it is worth it.”

The Barbados TODAY account executive confirmed that another food drive to assist more families was in the process of being organized.
