On the Road: The time to go green is now

The term ‘gas sipper’ is a relatively new buzz phrase to refer to vehicles that are cheap to drive, due to the fact that they do not consume a lot of fuel.

These vehicles, not surprisingly, tend to utilize hybrid technology. It is important, though, to keep in mind that gas prices could easily rise rapidly and unexpectedly, based on various factors. For this reason, buying a vehicle with good fuel economy is a wise choice.

The popularity of hybrid technology has skyrocketed because automakers have made them both affordable and easy to operate. From the driver’s perspective, most hybrids require no extra thought or change of driving habits. You fill up your hybrid at the pump like any other car, just far less frequently.

Governments are becoming more concerned with finding eco-friendly solutions to gas-powered cars, so automakers are providing an increasingly wide and appealing variety of hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs). The truth is, opting for any battery-powered or assisted vehicle will keep dollars in your pockets at the pump and pollute less, no matter what system your clean vehicle uses.

The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources is currently looking for more ways to further incentivize the growth of the sector. Work has already started, with the launch of the electric buses and the establishment of a ministerial committee on energy. Currently, Barbados is the highest user of electric vehicles in the world, in terms of electric vehicles per 1000 people.

Everywhere you look, there are fewer and fewer excuses for not going green. The time is now.
