West Indies Test batsman Shai Hope slammed a century for Sir Garfield Sobers XI, who beat Sir Wes Hall XI by one run under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, in the first 50-over match of the Barbados Cricket Legends Cup at Kensington Oval on Monday.

Dropped from the West Indies team for the current two-Test tour of New Zealand, Hope showed the class which has made him a prolific run-scorer in One-Day Internationals with a knock of 115 as he and vice-captain Nicholas Kirton, who made 83, rescued the Sir Garfield X1 from early trouble at 47 for three after they were sent in.

The pair added 161 in 27.5 overs for the fourth wicket, paving the way for a total of 289 for seven off 50 overs, before Kirton was dismissed by medium-pacer Jonathan Carter, skipper of the Sir Wesley X1.

Left-hander Kirton received 90 balls and struck nine fours and one six.

Hope, who faced 119 balls and counted six fours and four sixes, next fell to medium-pacer Justin Greaves after a stand of 54 in eight overs with Jonathan Drakes (27).

Carter picked up two for 36, fast bowler Akeem Jordan, two for 41 and Greaves, two for 55.

Sir Wesley X1 responded with 262 for seven off 47 overs when fading light ended play.

Greaves hit the topscore of 61 off the same number of balls including four fours and two sixes, while wicketkeeper/batsman Tevyn Walcott  made 55 off 65 deliveries with two fours and three sixes.

Pacer Jair McAllister took two for 36 and off-spinner Chaim Holder, two for 68.

The Tournament is in preparation for the 2021 Cricket West Indies (CWI) CG Insurance Super 50 Cup, which is slated for January/February. (BCA Media)
