NewsSports Chambers says men can boost women’s game by Barbados Today 05/01/2021 written by Barbados Today 05/01/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 231 The talented Hannah Chambers would like to see Barbadian female players develop a lot more and offered a few suggestions as to what can be done to get that accomplished. Speaking with the media after losing the 2020 Barbados Tennis Association Top 8 women’s final to Gabrielle Leslie, Chambers said it would be nice if the ladies were allowed to train with the top male players. “In terms of tournaments, I think it is up to everybody else if they want to train harder and work harder. In terms of training, it would be nice if we could hit with the guys. “Most of the top five guys are probably better than us. It would be nice to hit with them and just train with them and everybody could have mixed tennis. And see different styles of tennis and everything,” she said. A member of Ocean View Tennis Club, Chambers has lost only one local match for 2020 and that was against Leslie. Chambers is currently the reigning national women’s champion and has established her dominance on home soil as the one to beat. In fact, Chambers had defeated her main rival Leslie and captured her first senior women’s national title this year. Last year Chambers did a few tours outside of Barbados and will be hoping to remain consistent against some of the world’s best yet again. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
