The Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS) said a strong area of low pressure in the Northern Atlantic has caused a deterioration of sea conditions across Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. Residents and visitors should expect swells ranging from 2.5-3.5 metres ( 8 feet to 11 feet) to continue today and into the night. The BMS has advised beachgoers to stay out of the water during the warning period as sea conditions could be life-threatening. These northerly swells can pose a threat along the western coast where wave action may result in beach erosion and some spillover onto low-lying coastal roads. The BMS adds that there should be a slight improvement from Tuesday, February 2, however, seas are expected to remain rough in open water for the remainder of the week.
