COVID-19 Update: 47 new cases, 36 recoveries, three deaths

On Sunday, February 28, the country recorded 47 new cases of COVID-19, in addition to 36 recoveries and three deaths.

The new positive cases were identified from among 421 tests completed by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Three women died from COVID-19 yesterday – an 85-year-old resident of a nursing home; a 64-year-old who passed away at the Enmore facility; and an 88 year-old, also a resident of a nursing home. All of them had co-morbidities. The number of deaths from COVID-19 is now 36. There are currently 636 active cases on the island.

The 47 new cases comprised 24 women and 23 men. Eighteen of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious.

The other 29 cases were Barbadians.

Barbados has recorded 3,115 confirmed cases – 1,459 females and 1,656 males – and 2,443 persons have recovered.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 126,114 tests.

There were 1,730 persons vaccinated on Sunday, as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19. To date, a total of 38,615 vaccinations have been administered – 16,447 men and 22,168 women. (BGIS)
