King admits to 14 offences

Reputed thief Tyrone Antonio King admits he gets up to “a lot of mischief” when he smokes cocaine.

The 58-year-old from Forde’s Land, Silver Hill, Christ Church made the claim when he was hauled before the law courts today on 14 criminal offences.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges before Magistrate Deirdre McKenna adding to his previous 59 convictions. He is now on remand at Dodds awaiting his fate.

Between January 1 and 31, 2020 he loitered on the premises of Alfred Waldrond with intent to commit theft and broke into property belonging to Melanie Watts and Ramon Harper and stole cash.

Between March 10 and 11 he entered the home of Marsha Greendige as a trespasser and stole items including money totaling $684.60.

On April 13, 2020 he stole two bottles of cologne, $35 cash and a haversack from Asquith Trotman’s motor car, while from July 1 to October 1 2020 he loitered along Kendal Hill Tenantry A, as well as the residences of Reginald Bourne, Adrian Clarke and Rudolph Ward with cause to suspect that he was about to commit theft.

He stole a pair of softwear belonging to Jayda Cheeseman worth $450, two pairs shoes property of Shaquon Mason worth $610 and trespassed in the house of Esther Wynter and stole seven pairs of shoes and jewelry totaling $3 000. He also stole cash from a vehicle belonging to Jayden Wynter and $150 watch from the car of Matthew Gay.

In most of the cases, according to Prosecutor Victoria Taitt, the complainants left the money or items in their vehicles after parking them near their residences and woke up the following day and realised the vehicles had been broken into.

With regards to the burglary at Greenidge’s house. She secured her premises and went to bed but woke up about 1:30 a.m. the following day. It was then that she discovered that her handbag which she had left on the chair in the living room was now in the passageway.

She made a check of her CCTV camera. That footage according to Taitt, showed the convicted man bending over Greenidge watching her sleep before moving around the house and taking up cash which was secured in her bag liquor an liquor. On his arrest he told the police he used the money to buy cocaine and drank the alcohol.

In the case involving Mason, the complainant put his shoes out on his patio but when he returned later they had disappeared. A report was made to police. One of King’s relatives was subsequently in police custody and was discovered wearing one of the shoes reported missing. Ask where he had gotten them from, the man told them he had purchased shoes from King. The convict was  found with Gay’s stolen watch on his wrist.

King who is known to the courts for burglaries, theft, loitering and criminal damage said, “I believe that the condition that I am in is because of my affliction from small and my abuse.”

He claimed that he had tried to commit suicide three times and on two occasions he was stopped by his mother and the third time “I was not successful which lead me to this stage in my life.

“I started smoking cocaine from the age of 32, the uses does cause me to do a lot of mischief,” he added. He explained that when he was taken by police to some of the areas where he had committed the offences “two of the ladies . . . say something to me that I wished I was never born on this earth. If my mother had just let me dead… It ain’t my fault but I am sorry. This is ten years I asking help,” he said.

Asked by the magistrate whether he had received help any of the times that he had appeared in court he replied “no”.

Magistrate McKenna remanded him until April 6 to make checks on whether the convict was ever offered professional help for his drug abuse.

He will be sentenced for his crimes when the cases are called on that day before the Oistins Magistrates’ Court.

“I will try to get you the help that you need but you have to be ready to help yourself. One hand can’t clap,” the magistrate told him.
