SSA collecting bagged ash starting Wednesday

Government will be providing assistance with the removal of ash from communities through the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA).

To this end, members of the public are asked to note that a roster has been created for the collection of the ash.

Starting Wednesday, April 21, the SSA will begin removing the bagged ash in the parishes of St. Lucy and St. Peter. The next day, Thursday, April 22, they will be in St. Philip and Christ Church.

On Friday, April 23, they will visit St. John and St. George. The next collection day will be Monday, April 26, when the SSA teams go into St. Andrew and St. Thomas.

On Tuesday, April 27, they will target St. James and St. Joseph and will wrap up the following day, Wednesday, April 28, in the parish of St. Michael.

The collection of bagged ash will take place from 7:00 a.m. to noon each day.

Persons are advised to ensure that the ash is placed in crocus, sand or feed bags and that it is situated near but not among the regular household waste.

They are also urged to keep the ash from getting wet as it becomes heavy and difficult to lift when saturated. It should not be placed in skips since it also makes those receptacles too heavy.

In order to make sure the ash is collected on removal days, persons are asked to call the SSA’s hotlines at 262-5326 or 262-5327. They must state their names, locations and contact numbers. (BGIS)
