Local NewsNews Message from Prime Minister Mottley to mark the end of Ramadan by Barbados Today 14/05/2021 written by Barbados Today Updated by Asminnie Moonsammy 14/05/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 88 Below is the full statement: I wish to join you, members of the Barbadian Muslim faith, in celebrating the festival of Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. For me, it represents another opportunity for us all to recognise that our social and economic stability as a nation is much more secure when we acknowledge and support the diversity that makes us who we are. The past year or so has seen us all come together to fight what is arguably the greatest scourge mankind has faced in a century, the COVID-19 pandemic — a disease that has swept across our world creating havoc without regard for race or religion. The fall out for us in Barbados will continue to be felt in every sphere of activity for some time to come, but determination to rebuild better will bear maximum fruit if we are equally determined to rebuild together as one community. I am confident we will do it, as a united nation. Your Holy Month, characterised by the personal sacrifice of fasting and charity by Muslims, which now gives way to the celebrations of Eid-al-Fitr, may very well be symbolic of the path we now trod — the sacrifice and struggles of COVID-19, to be followed by a period of regeneration and growth for all our people.
