Trio nabbed in police officer’s slaying face multiple charges

Three men accused of the murder of Sergeant Newton Lewis were remanded to HMP Dodds after appearing in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court today.

They are Corey Antonio Morris , 43, of Egret Drive, Graeme Hall Park, Christ Church and Godding Road, Station Hill, St Michael; Jim Ron Fenty , 26, of Down Hill Drive, Eden Lodge, St Michael; and Jason Shamin Blenman, 26, of Powder Road, Station Hill, St Michael.

Sergeant Lewis, who was the assigned driver of Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, was fatally shot on May 22 while responding to a robbery in his Rose Hill, St Peter neighbourhood.

The three men accused of killing him will appear in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on June 21 and District ‘E’ on July 13.

Morris is also scheduled to appear at the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on June 22.

The trio is also facing a slew of other charges, following investigations conducted by officers of the Northern, Bridgetown and Southern Divisions.

In the District ‘E’ jurisdiction, they are jointly accused of damaging one building belonging to Colin Jordan without lawful excuse; and unlawfully and maliciously or recklessly engaging in conduct which placed Lionel Ward in danger of death or serious bodily harm.

Fenty and Blenman have also been charged with entering the dwelling house of Dakovan Husbands as a trespasser and stealing property valued at $3 465.

Both Morris and Fenty have also been charged with using a firearm without a licence.

These offences were all allegedly committed on May 22.

In the District ‘B’ area, the three are charged with entering the dwelling house of Roger Smith as trespassers and stealing property valued at $10 800, at the time carrying firearms, on May 4.

It alleged that on that same day, Fenty took Smith’s Toyota Axio motor car without his consent or the consent of any other lawful authority.
