At 2 a.m., Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 12.1N, longitude 57.2 W or about 175 miles (280 km) east southeast of Barbados. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 miles per hour, 85 km/h with higher gusts. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward to 140 miles per hour (220 km) mainly to the north of the centre of the system. Strong winds are likely to start from as early as 4- 5 a.m. Elsa is currently moving towards the west-northwest (290 degrees) at 26 miles per hour (43 km/h). This motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On its current track, the centre of Tropical Storm Esther should pass about 20 miles (33 km) to the south of Barbados Friday morning.
