Damage assessments being done on Government buildings

Damage assessments are being done on government buildings following the passage of Hurricane Elsa.

Acting Head of the Public Service, Mark Cummins, said the assessments were continuing, and reports so far had indicated that there was damage to the Civil Aviation Building and three schools – Parkinson Memorial, Coleridge and Parry and St Lawrence Primary.

Cummins made the comments on Saturday during a press conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, on matters relating to the aftermath of Hurricane Elsa.

He noted that the Public Service of Barbados should be operational and ready to serve the public on Monday, July 5.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley added: “We are hoping that we will be able to deliver public services from Monday morning, but there may be a few departments that may be affected because of internal damage that we are not yet aware of.”

Mottley pointed out that some public officers might be victims of Hurricane Elsa, and therefore appealed to the public for patience and consideration as the country navigates this difficult period.
