The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will embark on its campaign to sensitise farmers on the importance of proper disposal of pesticide containers on Wednesday, August 11, at 10 a.m. at The River Plantation, The River, St Philip.

Dubbed the Pesticide Container Management Scheme, the initiative will be addressed by Minister of Agriculture, Indar Weir, who will also officially launch the campaign, along with parliamentary representative for St Philip North, Dr Sonia Browne.

Representatives of companies involved in the importation, distribution and disposal of pesticides and/or the containers are expected to attend.  These include representatives from Carter’s & Co., Massy Distribution Ltd., McBride Caribbean Ltd.  and Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre.

Officials of the Agriculture Ministry, the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation, the Environmental Protection Department, and the Occupational Safety and Health department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations will be in attendance.
