The privately-owned public service vehicle (PSV) fraternity is also mourning the passing of veteran broadcaster Dennis Johnson who died on Tuesday.

The operators, who often tuned in to various programmes hosted or produced by Johnson as they plied their trade, have described him as “the consummate professional and an astute icon in the journalism fraternity”.

In a statement from the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT), Communications, Information and Marketing Officer Mark Haynes said Johnson’s passing “has no doubt rocked the hearts and minds of the PSV fraternity”.

“He was intelligent, most resilient and was not a myopic person, especially when addressing many national and regional matters which impact the lives of the people of the Caribbean. He exemplified a fearless disposition and was most passionate on a number of matters,” said Haynes.

“He paid rapt attention to detail and the use and correct interpretation of the English language so there must not be any ambiguity. Even though at times he may be construed as provocative, it was all in an effort for the national good and an improvement of human beings to do better, to brand and harness our talents,” he said.

“He conducted himself with the highest level of professionalism and decorum. His broadcasting skills were exemplary and worthy of commendation for which we must thank him.

“Starcom Network has lost a great man of immense integrity and decency, who has left an indelible mark in the landscape of Barbados. Dennis was indeed an asset and not a liability to the entire journalism fraternity. He will be greatly missed. To his wife, children, family and friends, the PSV fraternity extends deepest condolences at this time as we all mourn his loss. May his soul rest in eternal piece and may light perpetual shine upon him”.
