Barbados Labour Party (BLP) political hopeful for St. Philip West says she is no ‘fly-by-night’ representative.
In fact, Minister of Science, Innovation and Smart Technology, Kay McConney says that representation of country is in her bones having served Barbados since the tender age of nine in sport, performing arts, the foreign service and in education.
“I am in this because my heart is in it and I am fully committed to serve,” she told constituents and persons tuned in to the BLP meeting at satellite locations last night.
McConney will contest the seat against former Democratic Labour Party Member of Parliament and former Minister of Agriculture Dr. David Estwick, Lynette Eastmond of the Alliance Party for Progress and Solutions Barbados’ candidate Karina Goodridge.
McConney laid out her credentials while maintaining she was the best person for the job.
“I have been serving Barbados in one way or another, at home and abroad since I was nine years old. I am no stranger to service; I am no stranger to representation. At nine years old I was in Barbados Children’s Experimental Theatre, in the performing arts for the development of young people. I share that because it is one of the reasons I am standing on this stage.
Because it was through the performing arts that I was able to learn how to speak in public, to learn how to stand before an audience and to learn how to represent,” she said.
McConney’s candidacy was endorsed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley who called her the “real deal”.
“I have worked with many. This young lady who we have brought to you in St. Philip West is one that I know will make a difference in the lives of the people all across St. Philip West.
And I know that the same sense of caring and empathy she has shown to me in everything that she has done, in all of her jobs since 1995 is what will be brought to the representation of you. The choice is clear, entertainment or representation,” said Mottley. (KC)
