St James North Member of Parliament Edmund Hinkson says he’s committed to expanding services and access to members of the disabled community and the most vulnerable in the society.

The former Home Affairs Minister made the promise during a thanksgiving service at the Garden Church of God on Sunday, where he gave brief remarks and expressed thanks to constituency members for their support during the recent General Elections.
Hinkson said he was keen in continuing the work for those persons who are the most vulnerable on the island, adding that as part of an upcoming Disabilities Commission, he hopes to introduce some much needed changes in order to assist these persons in raising their standard of living.
“Of course those elderly people are among the most vulnerable in the society [and] they are the kind of people we have come to help. People with disabilities, it is well known islandwide that that is one of my main policy areas, and I look forward to continuing to be involved as I have been for over 30 years in advancing the cause of people with disabilities,” Hinkson said.
“Her Excellency, the then Governor General, of course now the President of our Republic [Dame Sandra Mason] would have named me chairman of a to-be-established Disabilities Commission in her Throne Speech in September 2020 [and] the Prime Minister last month at the swearing in of Members of Parliament, again named me as such.
“People with disabilities must have equal rights to legislative [processes] in this country like everyone else, and must be included in all aspects of our society,” he added. (SB)
