Multiple traffic offences have cost a 52-year-old man $2 000 in fines.
Carlyle Theophilus Nicholls, of 1st Avenue Beckles Hill, St Michael pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a stop sign, having no insurance, no driver’s licence, or identification and using number plates fraudulently.
Sergeant Victoria Taitt told the District ‘C’ St Matthias Magistrates’ Court that lawmen were on duty along the Adams section of the ABC Highway at its junction with Balls Road on the afternoon of March 22 when they observed a motorcar bearing the number BD67GJ0 travelling in a westerly direction along the highway without stopping.
The prosecutor said the driver then stopped abruptly and began to reverse but had to abort that move due to oncoming traffic. The driver was stopped by police and instructed to pull over.
He was asked to produce his driver’s licence but told police he had forgotten it at home along with his identification card. However checks were made and it was discovered that he was not the holder of a licence. He was taken to the police station and a police probe led to the other charges.
For failing to comply with the stop sign Nicholls was given an immediate fine of $250. Another $250 forthwith fine was imposed for using fraudulent number plates. Each fine had an alternative of 14 days in prison to run concurrently. The sum of $750 was also imposed for having no insurance and no licence. The alternative to that is for the guilty man to spend 30 days in prison to run concurrently. He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for having no identification.
