Local NewsNews SSA conducts major clean-up at Durant’s Development, Christ Church by Barbados Today 06/06/2022 written by Barbados Today Updated by Sandy Deane 06/06/2022 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 190 The Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) today removed more than ten truck loads of garbage that was being hoarded at a vacant lot in Durant’s Development in Christ Church. The SSA’s Public Relations Officer Carl Alff Padmore told Barbados TODAY, the unsightly pile-up, which included clothes, baby strollers, old furniture, galvanize sheets, plastics bags and wood was being hoarded by a woman said to have mental health challenges. “We would have been reliably informed by the family that she has mental health challenges. She would have been going to homes in the neighbourhood and removing garbage and bringing it to the lot, so neighbours reached out to the Ministry of Health and the Sanitation Service Authority for assistance.” The SSA team on the job at Durant’s, Christ Church. The eight-member SSA crew led by Operations Manager Michael Nicholls used three ten-wheeler trucks, an open back truck, a front-end loader and a bob cat at the site. The clean-up started around 8:15 a.m., and lasted four and a half hours. “After today’s clean-up, to get a reoccurrence here would really defeat the purpose. It really is a drain on the resources of the SSA,” Padmore lamented. “We are really calling for assistance for this lady, the family too has made some representation for help and support and we are hoping that this happens soon.” You Might Be Interested In Crystal Beckles-Holder, 2nd runner up in regional competition GUYANA: Body of child found after gold mine collapses Barbadians asked to help with return tickets for Haitians Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
