“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:2-3

On the heels of last week’s column “Travel benefits galore”, I had a wonderful weekend at the celebration of the wedding of the daughter of a fellow Rotarian from Trinidad to an American in North Carolina.

Weddings are very special events and this one was no exception especially since it was outside the Caribbean and there was a strong support of family and friends in an environment unfamiliar to most of those present.

Since my recent visit to my son’s family in Texas was more along the lines of helping support child care needs, I took the opportunity of the wedding to revisit the family for a fortnight and sandwich the wedding in the middle, as a side trip.

The in-person bonding with members of my family in Texas before and after the wedding, travelling with my son and his wife to the wedding were all special.

The attendance at various events around the nuptial ceremony, meeting many new faces from the bride and groom’s families and friends from North America and the Caribbean for the first time contributed significantly to a relaxing weekend of camaraderie and enjoyment.

Indeed, I expect it to be a lasting memory.

Happiness exuded from the couple at a reception the day before the wedding, exuberance at a grand celebration on the day itself, and a wonderful aura of peace and love as we said goodbye.

The bride was stunning in appearance and we were captivated by her effervescent personality. Her husband is a very confident, well mannered, friendly and ambitious young man.

May Laura and Joshua Hohenstein’s lives be blessed so that they may be completely humble, gentle, patient, and bearing with one another in love.

Together they constitute the nucleus of a family which can positively contribute to the future bonded by peace and love.
