Guyana’s Kristian Jeffrey increased his lead in the 2022 Radical Caribbean Cup (RCC) with two more victories in the second round at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday.
On his first appearance this year, former SR3 Cup Champion Sean Maloney was the other race winner, achieving a family double with son Zane, who had claimed a notable first FIA Formula 3 victory at the iconic Spa circuit in Belgium earlier in the day.
Jeffrey leads the standings with 125 points, while three more podium finishes keep Trinidad & Tobago’s Kristian Boodoosingh in the hunt for the title at the half-way stage of the season with 100 points. With his first podium of the season, Jamaica’s Senna Summerbell has moved up to third (56pts) with Maloney the highest-placed Bajan in fourth (51pts). There are smaller margins in the Nations Cup, although Guyana also leads on 130 points, ahead of Barbados (110pts), T&T (105pts) and Jamaica (63pts).
Boodoosingh and Jeffrey set the pace from the start, with ‘Boodoostig’ topping the times in free practice with a best of 58.998secs, which he nearly matched in a close-fought qualifying session, claiming pole position (59.022s) by just 1/1000th from Jeffrey. Former Suzuki Challenge Cup (SCS) Champion Suleman Esuf was third, with Summerbell and Justin Maloney completing the top five, both closer to the pole time by a couple of tenths than they had been in the opening round in July. Sean Maloney was sixth, the last driver within just three-quarters of a second of pole, while newcomer Ahmed Esuf lined up last on his first outing in an SR3.
With races starting from the southern grid, Jeffrey snatched a lead he was not to lose from pole-sitter Boodoosingh on the opening lap, winning by 0.285s, the day’s smallest margin of victory. Summerbell passed ‘Sol’ Esuf for third on lap one and held off the more experienced Radical racer for his first RCC podium, also gaining the bonus point for fastest lap.
Ahmed Esuf and Sean Maloney sat on the front row of the reversed grid for race two, Justin Maloney and Summerbell on row two, Sol Esuf and Boodoosingh on row three, with Jeffrey at the back. Sol made an excellent start, climbing to second behind brother Ahmed for the first couple of laps, but as race experience told, Ahmed slipped back as Sean Maloney assumed the lead from Sol, then Boodoosingh came through to third just after half-distance, with Jeffrey finishing fourth.

Based on points scored in the first two races, Jeffrey and Sean Maloney were on the front row for the day’s final race, with Boodoosingh behind, just four points spread across the trio. Sol Esuf was next up, with Summerbell and Justin Maloney on row three and Ahmed Esuf at the back. Jeffrey made the best of the start, leading from lights to flag, while Boodoosingh jumped Sean Maloney on the first lap, these two claiming the remaining podium places. Summerbell reinforced his improving form with fourth place head of Justin Maloney, with the Esuf brothers completing the field.
