Chad Knight wins draughts competition

Hard work has paid off for Chad “Carters” Knight who has emerged champion in the Lodge Road Draughts Club Majors division.

Knight defeated Wilma Branch 2-0 in the final round on Sunday at Best Road, Christ Church, to accumulate a tournament–winning 27 points.

The new Masters player entered the tournament two days after receiving the all-clear from having the Covid-19 virus and devoted himself to long hours of practice.

Eddie Moore bounced back from losing the first game against Cleitus Pinder to draw 1-1 and finished what has been an extremely hard-fought competition on 26 points and second place.

David Yearwood was threatening but held to two drawn games by Wynnel Neverson 0-0.

Yearwood finished the 10 rounds third on 25 points while Neverson was fourth on 24.

Anderson Hunte defeated national champion Kenneth “Punisher” Thompson 2-0 to edge him out by honour points for fifth place with a share of 23 points.

Shaunnel Neverson was the winner of the inaugural students’ tournament with a runaway 22 points.

The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for Lodge Road Draughts Club at Best Road on Sunday from 5 p.m. (HH)
